The North Battleford campus of North West Regional College is about to host its first ever powwow.

It will take place May 21st on the west side of the campus.

It is the brainchild of college representative workforce consultant Miranda Bear.

Bear says she was looking for a way to interest Aboriginal people in the campus, so they could see the programs the college offers.

At the same time, she was looking for a way to help non-Aboriginal people gain an appreciation for Aboriginal culture.

Bear says students seem to be having lots of fun organizing it.

She says it’s a chance for the students to be the teachers, as they explain Aboriginal culture to the instructors.

About 400 people are expected to attend the powwow, mostly from the Battlefords and surrounding First Nations.
