Community Association Looking To Keep FNUC Around

A Saskatoon community association says it would like to keep First Nations University of Canada in its neighbourhood even if that means trying to buy the property.

On Thursday night around 60 people met in City Park to discuss the proposition.

Tom Wolf is on the community association’s civic committee, which has been meeting with possible partners or tenants if it were to purchase the property, which encompasses an entire city block.

Wolf says they have also had conversations with FNUC, and he says those need to continue.

City Park is around 75 per cent short of the amount of green space the city says a neighbourhood should have.

Wolf says that is a major concern with a developer buying the property and building on it.

Wolf says the community is deficient in green space, which is the main reason they want a stake in the property.

Wolf says they hope to convince FNUC to consider the association as a buyer with some exclusivity.

He adds they’d like to buy it at a fair market price.
