A Regina lawyer is confirming legal action against a former youth worker and the provincial government.

Ronald Sawa was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for admitting to sexually abusing nine boys at the Saskatchewan Boys Centre, now known as the Paul Dojack Youth Centre.

Lawyer Tony Merchant says his law firm has been receiving allegations of abuse for years.

Merchant says he advised the plaintiffs that the case was against the province, and the case would be stronger with more clients.

According to Merchant, the plaintiffs are seeking an admittance of wrongdoing and compensation from the government.

He says the province has not been formally served, as court papers were just filed on Tuesday.
