A trial was scheduled to be held in Lloydminster yesterday for three Aboriginal men charged with hunting illegally.
But it didn’t happen, because the Crown and defence agreed on a deal instead.
Eric Bear, Earl Warren Nighttraveller and John Kennedy were charged with illegal hunting in the Marsden area on October 18th.
Instead of a trial, the Crown and defence agreed to send the matter to alternative measures.
A co-ordinator of that program will decide what the men will do to make up for the offence.
The matter is scheduled to come back to Lloydminster Provincial Court on October 4th.
If the Crown is satisfied with what the men have done, the charges will be dropped and they won’t have a criminal record.
