Introduction Of Natural Gas To La Ronge Continues

SaskEnergy is continuing to install a natural gas pipeline in the La Ronge area this summer, concentrating on providing service to the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and commercial properties in La Ronge.
Utility spokesperson Casey MacLeod says construction in residential areas of La Ronge will begin in 2011 based on which areas show the most interest in signing up for conversion to natural gas.
She says property owners will be contacted this summer to encourage more sign-ups.
MacLeod says that despite the upfront costs of hooking up and converting a property to natural gas, in the long run it is the cleanest of the fossil fuels and most economical to use.
MacLeod also says this project has involved overcoming some of the toughest terrain SaskEnergy crews have ever encountered, including 30 water crossings.
She adds the biggest hurdle last year was finding a way to get the pipeline across the Montreal River.
MacLeod says as crews start adding service to commercial properties in La Ronge, they have the challenge of getting the pipeline through the bedrock.
