MN-S Area Directors Call For Doucette To Resign

The president and vice-president of the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan are being asked to resign.

A letter signed by at least eight of the province’s 12 MN-S area directors has been sent out calling for Robert Doucette and Allan Morin to step down.

The directors say Doucette and Morin have been unilaterally making decisions without consulting the Provincial Metis Council.

Helen Johnson, the area director for MN-S Eastern Region II, says the Metis Nation is also still waiting for a treasurer to replace departed executive member Gabe Lafond, something she says should have happened by now.

Johnson also says Doucette and Morin have scrapped the old treasury board and placed themselves on it — something she says is extremely unusual.

Doucette says he wasn’t aware of a letter calling for his resignation until he was informed by the media today, but says he doesn’t plan on going anywhere.

He says he wants to hear the grievances of the area directors who are calling for him to step down, but he doesn’t believe he’s been acting in contravention of the MN-S constitution.

He says the PMC has been meeting every two months as stated in the constitution

Doucette adds the position of treasurer will likely be sorted out at this year’s Metis Nation Legislative Assembly.

Meanwhile, an area director in northern Saskatchewan says his name should not have appeared on the press release that was issued today.

Louis Gardiner of Northern Region III says he never gave approval for the release to go out — and despite the fact his name is on it, he says it shouldn’t be there.
