Study Finds Metal Levels In Creighton Soil OK

A study of soil and air quality near Flin Flon and Creighton shows people aren’t likely getting sick due to exposure to metals.

The study says, overall, the likelihood that adverse health effects are from exposure to metals is negligible to low.

Dr. James Irvine, northern Saskatchewan’s medical health officer, calls the findings reassuring.

Irvine notes the smoke stack of the local smelter plant is no longer operating, which he says will have an immediate impact on air quality.

He says further blood test surveys will be done on children in the fall of 2011 to continue monitoring lead levels.

Those were found to be well below current acceptable Canadian limits, but slightly above the average for American children of the same age.
