Water bombers were needed to put out a fire on a La Ronge area reserve over the weekend.
The fire started Saturday on the Bell’s Point reserve and eventually grew to two-and-a-half hectares.
Saskatchewan Environment spokesperson Jeannette Krayetski says the fire was only declared out this morning.
She also says the fire has likely caused some of the smoke in La Ronge in recent days, but adds there are other sources of smoke in the Northwest Territories being pushed south by a northerly wind.
Krayetski says given the amount of lightning-caused fires that are expected to crop up in the next few days, it’s “unacceptable” that this fire was human-caused.
