First Nations and Metis fishers in the province could soon be asked how many fish they are catching for sustenance purposes.

Saskatchewan Environment says it wants to get a better idea of how many fish are being used for sustenance, as part of its new fisheries management plan.

Fisheries manager Chris Dunn says the whole idea of the new plan is to get a better sense of what’s happening with the industry.

He notes that pertains to commercial fishing, as well.

Dunn says the ministry is currently looking at some conservation proposals for sport fishers and anglers, but nothing that should affect commercial harvesters.

He adds they also are continuing to monitor lake acidification levels in the province’s northwest.
