A director with the Saskatchewan Research Council says they will be acting immediately to ensure any openings to buildings at the Gunnar mine site are closed up.
It recently came to light that some people have been visiting the shuttered uranium mine and entering old buildings.
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission says it suggested to the research council back in December that an assessment of the situation be done.
SRC spokesman Joe Muldoon says they were in the middle of an environmental assessment process when that directive first came.
Muldoon says workers could be on the site as early as this week.
He adds they will look at demolishing buildings next summer.
