Meat Spoiled In Cumberland House Due To Blackout

The mayor of Cumberland House says a weekend storm played havoc with food supplies in his community.

Andy McKay explains the power was out from Friday night to Saturday night after tree limbs crashed into power lines, disrupting supply to the area.

McKay says the 29-hour blackout defrosted many people’s refrigerators, spoiling meat.

The mayor says the storm actually ripped the canopy off one building in the community, while a few power poles along Highway 123 blew over.

He says some weakened trees also fell onto the highway yesterday, but have since been cleared off.

A spokesman for SaskPower says crews have since attended to the outage and things should be back to normal.
