A Metis rights conference begins today in Saskatoon.
Professors, academics and Metis representatives from across the country will be discussing the state of land-claims and other rights-based issues.
Titled “The Powley Legacy: Mapping the History of Metis Nation Rights” the session runs for two days between now and the start of Batoche ceremonies.
Metis National Council president Clem Chartier says topics covered will include a recent court-decision in Manitoba as well as land-claims in Saskatchewan.
He adds there will even be a presentation on land and government rights issues in Nicaragua.
