Chief: TB Needs Dual Focus

A chief in the Far North says he thinks a dual focus is required to solve outbreaks of Tuberculosis on reserve.
Chief Joe Dantouze of the Northlands Dene First Nation says he doesn’t believe just focusing on the medical condition itself will do the job.
He says overcrowding and housing are problems that must be addressed to get any lasting impact when treating TB.
The chief says he isn’t sure how many people in Lac Brochet have Tuberculosis but he wants it to end.
And, he thinks focusing on both Tuberculosis and Housing at the same time could be the way forward.
Dantouze recently moved a resolution at the Assembly of First Nations calling for Ottawa to improve Tuberculosis care and prevention.
