Outfitters Lobbying For More Control Of Licencing

Saskatchewan outfitters are sitting down with the provincial government in La Ronge today to discuss some potential changes to the industry.

Today’s meeting is the last in a series of town hall meetings across the province.

The outfitters are looking to set up a commission to administer the licencing of outfitting operations in the province.

Brian Hoffart is the president of the Saskatchewan Outfitters Association.

He says the commission would be totally separate from the association, and one that reports directly to the Minister of Environment.

Hoffart says Alberta has already been doing this for 15 years and it’s been a success for both sides.

He feels the move will essentially put a lot of responsibility back in the hands of the outfitters, which he says is a good thing.

Hoffart says after today’s meeting is over, information will be compiled and sent to the minister for a decision.
