Province Urged To Lobby For Aid For Kawacatoose

The Opposition says the provincial government should be pushing the federal government to provide more help to the Kawacatoose First Nation.

NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter notes it’s been a little over a month since the tornado ravaged the reserve — and as far as he knows, little has been done to help tornado victims.

He says Premier Brad Wall should press the Ottawa to provide money for cleanup and rebuilding much faster.

Yesterday in North Battleford, Wall announced improvements to the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program.

Lingenfelter says that would have been the perfect opportunity to announce plans to obtain aid more quickly for the Kawacatoose — but there was no mention of the band’s situation.

The July 2nd tornado damaged 20 homes on the reserve.
