First Nations, Metis and Inuit people, environmental groups and concerned citizens from across the country have gathered at the Hatchet Lake Denesuline Nation to discuss their concerns about the water, land and air.

They are there for the fourth annual “Keepers of the Water” gathering.

It’s the first time the event has been held in Saskatchewan.

Prince Albert Grand Council Vice-Chief Don Deranger says with over 100,000 bodies of water in the province’s north, it is the perfect location to host the gathering.

Deranger also says it will be good for northern citizens to hear from environmental groups.

Organizers are expecting 500 participants.

The event will run until Monday.
