Governor-General Michaelle Jean is planning a visit to Saskatchewan next week — including a stop in La Ronge.
Jean will tour the community next Tuesday with Lac La Ronge Indian Band Chief Tammy Cook-Searson, before siitting down with the band council to discuss the community’s challenges and successes.
A community celebration featuring a traditional fish fry and cultural performances will be held after that meeting.
Cook-Searson says she is “very excited and honoured” that Jean has made plans to visit her community.
She adds band officials have been working on arrangements — including security — for a while, but haven’t been able to talk about it until now.
On Monday, Jean will be meeting with the Premier and Lieutenant-Governor in Regina — before travelling to Saskatoon to host a youth dialogue at the Downtown Saskatoon Youth Centre.
On Tuesday, she will take part in a discussion at the University of Saskatchewan on women’s rights to mark the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Bill of Rights, before heading to La Ronge.
