A preliminary hearing for a Meadow Lake man accused of manslaughter was adjourned until late October today when an unidentified witness didn’t show up.

Kyle Villeneuve is accused of killing 43-year-old Joey Merasty.

Merasty died in a Saskatoon hospital from injuries he received in a fight outside a Meadow Lake bar on September 8th, 2008.

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for the arrest of the male witness who failed to appear in court for today’s proceedings.

Defence lawyer Ron Piche describes the witness as “key” to the defence’s case.

Crown counsel Greg Linden says the Crown has tried hard to find the witness, but has been unable to do so.

The hearing has been postponed until October 22nd.
