Patients in La Loche are now be able to talk to doctors in Regina without actually having to be there.

The community’s hospital was recently made part of the province’s telehealth network, an initiative designed to connect residents of isolated communities with medical specialists in bigger cities.

The move brings the La Loche hospital in line with 18 other centres across Saskatchewan, including several others in the North.

A spokesman for the local health authority, Richard Petit, says the technology has already been put to good use.

Petit points out that the equipment can be used by doctors in Regina to better instruct their counterparts in northern communities.

As well, x-rays taken in the North can also be transmitted down to larger centres for expert analysis.
