Hunters To Donate Game To Food Bank

Saskatoon Food Bank clients will soon be getting more traditional meat sources in their hampers.
The food bank has partnered with the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation and Saskatchewan Environment so that hunters can bring any large game meat to the federation, which will then process it and provide it to the food bank.
Food bank CEO Paul Merriman says the idea came from a local hunter who wondered last year if there was a way to take meat that was harvested to help those in need.
Merriman notes there are a lot of hunters from outside the province who hunt game in Saskatchewan every year — and this program helps them make the best use of what’s harvested and not taken home.
The federation says there was already support amongst its members last year when the idea was first talked about.
If successful in Saskatoon, the hope is to roll out the program provincially in within the next couple of years.
