An organization that works to promote Aboriginal business hopes a new survey it is conducting will change attitudes of the general public, corporate Canada and decision-makers when it comes to challenges facing those in Aboriginal business.
Stephen Scott is with the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB), and he says accessing capital or equity is one of the biggest barriers facing Aboriginal business people.
He says this is especially true for First Nations people living on reserve, because they can’t use your homes or property as collateral when trying to secure financing.
Scott also says most people don’t seem to realize that this barrier exists.
There are two surveys — one for Aboriginal business owners and one for community economic development corporations.
Those interested in participating in the surveys can visit www.ccab.com.
