Barge To Wollaston Out Of Service Indefinitely

Mechanical problems have disrupted barge service in the province’s far north.

Saskatchewan Highways says the barge linking Highway 905 to the community of Wollaston Lake is out of commission.

Spokesman Dan Palmer says the problem is linked to two new drives that were installed on the craft earlier this year.

Palmer says one of them “had some issues” — and because they connect the barge’s transmission to the propellers, the vessel can’t move.

He says it’s not known how long the repairs will take.

But he says motorists can phone the Highways Hotline if they have any questions before heading out.
