Students and staff at the Ochapowace First Nation are looking forward to the arrival of dozens of customized laptop computers.

Kakisiwew School was chosen through the One Laptop Per Child initiative sponsored by the Belinda Stronach Foundation.

The laptops are designed to be durable and run on low power, and come with a number of programs that deal with subjects in a culturally-engaging manner.

School principal Ron Gillis says the new technology will have a “tremendous impact” on the community, as only between 15 and 20 per cent of reserve households have a computer.

Gillis says close to 100 laptops will be delivered to the school.
