Man Sentenced For Stealing From SIGA ATMs

A man who stole nearly $1.2 million from the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority is going to prison and has been ordered to repay all of the money he took from ATMs.
Alain Germain was sentenced today after the defence and Crown made a joint submission suggesting three-and-a-half years in a federal institution.
Before he was sentenced, Germain fired his lawyer — because he says he never agreed to restitution, and if that was part of the agreement, he says he would have pleaded not guilty.
Crown Prosecutor Robin Ritter says that speaks to Germain’s level of remorse.
It is now up to SIGA to enforce the restitution court order.
SIGA’s lawyer says the organization also has to make a decision on whether to continue with a civil suit against Germain.
