Road-Link in Northwest SK, AB Still Possibility

It appears a plan to construct a road-link between Northwestern Saskatchewan and Fort McMurray isn’t entirely dead.

A spokesperson for the Alberta government says they have retained a consultant for the project and are in the midst of completing an engineering alignment.

Environmental assessments are also underway.

Back in 2005 the two provincial governments committed to building a road between the two regions.

Saskatchewan’s ministry of highways say they have fourteen kilometres left to do on their side of the road, but won’t complete the work until Alberta is further along.

The Alberta government says it has about 65 kilometres of road to build.

However, the spokesperson says the road won’t go on the government’s 3-year to-do list until all the engineering and environmental work is complete.
