The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is encouraging more First Nations families to become foster families.
The FSIN says there are approximately 3,600 First Nations children in care off-reserve, adding that makes up about 80% of the province’s children in care.
However, the FSIN says there are only 63 First Nations foster homes, while there are 705 non-First Nations homes.
FSIN Vice-Chief Dutch Lerat says it’s important for children to be nurtured in a place where there is a strong influence from their own culture, traditions, and community.
