Changes to an election act of the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council are continuing to cause concerns among several chiefs.

Chief Todd Cappo of Muscowpetung, along with four other First Nations, are appealing the September 24 election because amendments to the FHQTC election act were made act six days prior.

Cappo says he doesn’t have an issue with the results, but the process in how the changes were made.

Cappo says Ira Lavallee won over incumbent Myke Agecoutey by five votes.

He says the results would have been much different if the election ran under the old rules, which allowed the Chiefs to select the voters in electing new tribal representation.

According to other media sources, the amendments include a voter submission list two days prior to the election day and only chief and council are eligible voting delegates.
