The First Nations University has a new board of governors, and one member has a special connection to the school’s past.

Jocelyne Wasacase-Merasty is the Prairie Regional Manager for the National Centre for First Nations Governance.

Her late aunt, Ida Wasacase, was the university’s first president back when it was known as SIFC.

Wasacase-Merasty says her late aunt had a vision for First Nations education, and she wants to see that succeed.

Wasacase-Merasty is a communications leader with fourteen years experience including work with SIAST, SIGA and the FSIN.

The other board members are Della Anaquod, Peter D. Carlton, Gladys Christiansen, Claudette Commanda, Peter Homenuck, George E. Lafond, John G. Paul and David Sharpe.
