The Saskatchewan Research Council is being applauded for the way it is consulting residents about a mine cleanup in the province’s far north.
Diane McDonald, a spokeswoman for the Athabasca Territorial Government, says the SRC is including communities in the writing of an environmental impact statement.
McDonald says northern communities don’t normally get that level of input.
She adds the SRC has also held a number of open houses on the project.
The research council is currently demolishing buildings at the abandoned Gunnar Mine, with more work set for next summer.
