The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations says it wants to be taken seriously on the matter of Internet gaming.

Yesterday, the FSIN passed a resolution at its fall legislative assembly calling for an engagement session with the province over the issue.

The resolution also calls for the federation to be included in the provincial working group that has been struck by the government.

FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild says online gambling is only going to get bigger, as evidenced by the 2,000 gaming sites on the Internet right now.

Lonechild says projected profits for the industry this year are estimated at $24.5 billion.

He also notes Canadians currently spend $1 billion a year at unregulated websites.

Little Black Bear Chief Perry Bellegarde says he worries online gaming will cut into SIGA’s bottom line unless First Nations are there to help usher in that process.
