The lawyer for a Metis man facing election forgery charges has confirmed his client will take the stand in his own defence.
Brian Amyotte is facing four charges related to his involvement in the controversial 2004 Metis Nation – Saskatchewan election.
The Crown closed its case this morning after calling seven witnesses, many of whom were also involved in the election and pleaded guilty themselves to forgery charges.
This morning, Amyotte’s lawyer announced he will be calling four witnesses, the last of which will be Amyotte himself.
His brother, Gordon Amyotte, will also testify — along with Tina Pollard, the woman originally set to work the Denholm polling station, which was the area Amyotte was running in.
The fourth witness is Laura Stade, who worked in the North Battleford Metis office for nearly 10 years as a bookkeeper and community developer.
