Advisory Group Wants Mining Industry

An advisory group says it thinks north-central Saskatchewan would make a great manufacturing home for the mining industry.

 

Intelegia is a consultant firm recently contracted to brainstorm new ways of attracting investment to the Prince Albert area.

 

This morning senior partner Louis Grenier told an audience of community and business leaders why manufacturing could work for the North Central Enterprise region.

 

He says if the level of manufacturing rose to correspond with the population it would represent a potential of six hundred and sixty million dollars.

 

He explains major investments in mining are expected over the coming decades

 

But, he advised local leaders not to spend too much effort announcing that fact to outside investors.

 

Grenier says people will come to where the jobs are anyway.

 

Rather, he says the region should try to attract companies that either provide services to the mines or manufacture what’s taken out of them.

 

Meantime, Prince Albert mayor Jim Scarrow says he was impressed by the presentation.

 

The mayor says if the region is to become a manufacturing base, however, it would certainly help if the forest industry were to rebound.
