Peepeekisis Success Story Shared At Justice Forum

A youth peacekeeping program is making a difference in a First Nations school in southern Saskatchewan.

The Peepeekisis program presented a workshop at yesterday’s Restorative Justice Symposium in Regina.

It is a 15-week compulsory program involving elders and a Grade 7 and 8 class.

Susan Jolly-Maxie is a justice facilitator and mediator with the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council.

She says the program starts by teaching the kids about themselves and building confidence, before the youth are taught to work with others.

Jolly-Maxie says the program is at several of the schools in the File Hills area and will continue to expand next year.

Workbooks are available in Cree and Nakota.
