Concerns over a proposed potash mine on a Saskatchewan First Nation are growing.
Elders from the Muskowekwan First Nation hosted a community meeting yesterday, hoping to hear more answers from chief and council as well as Encanto Potash Corporation.
Band member Laura Oochoo says the community has many concerns with the project surrounding treaty status, individual rights, and the approval of the environmental assessment.
Oochoo says it is a breach of trust for Muskowekwan leadership to go ahead with the joint venture.
Only one councillor was available for the meeting to address the concerns.
Councillor William Pinacy Junior says he will take their requests back to the community leaders.
Concerns expressed at the meeting included the social impacts of the project, disrupting of traditional lands and if people would have to move to accommodate the mine.
