The Willow Cree Healing Lodge is getting money for an expansion.
Today the federal government announced $55 million of spending into the healing lodge, the Riverband institution in Prince Albert and another facility in Edmonton.
Forty new spaces are expected to be built at Willow Cree while Riverbend will get 50.
The expansions are expected to be finished by 2014.
Prince Albert Member of Parliament Randy Hoback says the expansions should reduce the number of inmates who get out of custody years ahead of their original sentence.
Hoback says he knows there has been a small increase in the prison population already due to the legislation and some double-bunking may be necessary.
