Former Fond du Lac Chief Dies At Age 47

A wake service is being held in Prince Albert today for the former chief of the Fond du Lac First Nation.

Forty-seven-year-old Albert G. Mercredi passed away Sunday in hospital after a battle with cancer.

He served one term as chief of the band.

Band councillor Joe Marten says Mercredi did good work for the community, helping bring a new lagoon and an arena to the reserve.

Another wake service for Mercredi will be held in Fond du Lac this evening.

The funeral will be on Friday.
