A 54-year-old man is dead following an industrial accident on a northern Saskatchewan lake.
RCMP say the victim was operating a D-6 Cat on Cree Lake at a CanAlaska Uranium exploration site on Monday morning when his bulldozer went through the ice into approximately 60 feet of water.
The body was recovered and was transported to Prince Albert where a autopsy is expected to be completed today.
Police say the man was employed by a drilling company out of Aldergrove, BC.
The man’s name hasn’t been released, but RCMP spokesman Sgt. Paul Dawson says it’s believed he has ties to both BC and Alberta.
Occupational Health and Safety and the provincial coroner are assisting with the investigation.
The machine remains at the bottom of Cree Lake, and Saskatchewan Environment has been alerted.
The company says operations at the Cree East project have been suspended until further notice.
