Don’t expect any major changes to wild-rice insurance this year.

Cam Swan, the general manager of the province’s crop insurance program, says 2011 will look much the same as last year.

Swan says prices are down somewhat, but the program will operate much the same way.

He says the western region averaged 35 pounds per acre.

The central region checked in at 48 pounds and the eastern region had 33 pounds.

Swan says they handed out 78 contracts last year, which is 12 fewer than 2009.

Producers have until March 31st to decide whether or not to enter the program.
