The North West Company is working on a new method of shipping food to northern communities after changes in government subsidies.
Under the new Nutrition North Canada program, the Indian and Northern Affairs department is dropping the shipping subsidy for many foods, which do not meet nutrition requirements.
North West Company executive vice-president Michael McMullen says they are working on ways to get non-subsidized foods to the north.
McMullen says Fond du Lac, Stony Rapids and Black Lake have partial eligibility for INAC food shipment subsidies, and only for two months of the year.
