The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is hoping to reach a settlement in a lawsuit against the government.
The band says there are indications Canada will provide compensation of $950,000.
The money is for a longstanding claim that the government failed to supply the community with the proper amount of ammunition and twine required under treaty.
Chief Tammy Cook-Searson says the First Nation argued that not having those items impacted their traditional hunting and fishing economy.
Six-hundred and sixty-thousand dollars of the settlement will be provided in cash, while the rest will come in the form of property.
This includes the old hospital grounds in La Ronge, vacant lands at 116 Cuthand Street and the lots on which the Indian Band’s education and storage buildings are located.
Cook-Searson says it also includes a cemetary.
The proposed settlement agreement must be ratified by band membership.
A vote will take place in late March and a series of meetings at the band’s reserves will take place before then.
