Community Strategy Working in PA

A new approach to social issues is apparently paying off in Prince Albert.

Police chief Dale McFee says it’s been roughly two months since they began using a community strategy perfected in Scotland.

The strategy involves frequent big-tent meetings between agencies of all kinds in Prince Albert.

McFee says the goal of the meetings is to come up with new ways of treating problems like youth violence, addictions, housing and other issues.

Speaking at yesterday’s city council meeting, the chief said early interventions were a main key in the strategy.

He notes it’s easier to help youth caught in the system if multiple agencies are aware of the case.

The chief says in eight years Prince Albert has seen its arrests increase from 2,950 to 6,800.

He says that trend must be reversed.
