A Northern man has been sentenced to two years less a day in a provincial jail.

This afternoon 28-year-old Tyler Hansen went before a judge on a conviction of aggravated assault.

The incident happened in June of last year after an off-duty RCMP officer went out to ask Hansen and another man to stop squealing their tires in front of his house.

Hansen was in the passenger seat at the time and jumped out swinging.

The officer suffered a broken ankle as well as numerous bumps and bruises.

Hansen apologized for his actions, saying he wished it had never happened.
