A hockey hero from the Ahtahkakoop First Nation says he’s proud of his latest honour.

Fred Sasakamoose recently travelled to Edmonton to pick up an Aboriginal Achievement Award.

A former NHL player, Sasakamoose has spent years speaking to young players about overcoming obstacles and bettering ones self.

Other winners at this year’s award ceremonies include Metis leader Audrey Poitras and children’s activist Cindy Blackstock.
