The Assembly of First Nations is urging the government to close the health gap between First Nations and the rest of the country.
National chief Shawn Atleo says Canada could take a page from Australia.
In the land down under March 24th is marked annually as “close the gap” day.
Atleo says Australia signed a 1.6 billion dollar agreement with their aboriginal people in a bid to reduce shortfalls in health.
He says Canada should look at similar moves to address things like tuberculosis, unsafe drinking water and poor housing on reserves.
