Members of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band have voted overwhelmingly in favor of accepting an ammunition and twine claim settlement.

A series of ratification votes were held for band members and the final one was on Saturday.

A total of 474 “yes” votes were submitted, while eight people voted against the proposal.

Under the claim, the federal government will pay the band $950,000 for the Crown’s failure to provide the proper amount of ammunition and twine under treaty.

That includes $660,000 cash and $290,000 worth of land.

The land in question includes the old hospital grounds, the cemetery and other lots in La Ronge, which will become reserve land.

The band’s chief and council will decide how the money will be spent following the upcoming band elections
