SGI is partnering up with two tribal councils in a bid to reduce car accidents.
For the past few months traffic safety officers have been talking with elders and officials at the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council and the Saskatoon Tribal Council.
They are trying to come up with better ways of informing local residents about the importance of seatbelt use, the dangers of impaired driving and other safety issues.
The SGI’s Kelly Brinkworth says prevention is the main focus.
Brinkworth says the initiative is a 2 year pilot project and they’ll be monitoring its effectiveness to see whether or not they should start it up in other communities.
