La Loche Councillor Stepping Down

This is the last official day on the job for a village councillor in La Loche who is resigning over differences with the other council members.

Daniel Montgrand has been on council since the municipal election in the fall of 2009.

Relations have been so strained between Montgrand and the rest of council, that on more than one occasion the mayor summoned the Mounties to intervene in confrontations between the two.

Montgrand admits swearing in those exchanges, but doesn’t think calling the RCMP was necessary.

Still, Mayor Georigina Jolibois says she would have preferred Montrgrand stay on council, and adds he wasn’t forced out.

Montgrand says he plans to run for mayor in 2012.
