A woman from the Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation says it’s been a very difficult week since she learned her mother died in Nigeria.
Sheryl Horse says she last talked to her mom, Deborah Pine, on Wednesday the 23rd.
Pine had travelled to the country to get married.
She had originally been scheduled to take a trip home in early March but had fallen ill.
Horse says her mother told her she felt sick.
The next day Horse received word her Mother had passed away.
She says it’s been a difficult ordeal, and she’s waiting to hear word from the embassy about what happened.
She also is waiting to have her mother’s body returned to Canada.
Horse says the family has been in touch with her Mother’s new husband but it’s a tough relationship because they didn’t really approve of the marriage.
She’s hoping to hear more details of when her Mother’s body will return to the country soon.
