New Champs in FSIN Provincial Hockey

The FSIN Provincial Hockey Championships took place in Saskatoon over the weekend, and there were new champions crowned in each division.
The Red Pheasant Rebels defeated Beardy’s 2-nothing in the final in the Senior Contact division. Last year’s champions, Canoe Lake, finished third.
In the Legends division, it was the Sandy Lake Blackhawks claiming the title over the Standing Buffalo Fighting Sioux with a 3-1 victory in the final. La Ronge finished third. Muskeg Lake were the defending champions.
A team from the Cote reserve won the inaugural Masters division championship, beating English River 10-4 in the final. The Agency Chiefs Tribal Council claimed bronze.
The Mistawasis Warriors defeated the Muskeg Lake Blues 6-5 in the final of the Recreation division. Onion Lake finished third. Cote was last year’s winner.
And in the Ladies division, Muskeg Lake won the title by beating Sandy Lake 8-5 in the final. Beardy’s was third. The team from Cote were the defending champs.
All players had to play for their own First Nation.
There were 80 teams participating in this past weekend’s event — which drew nearly 10,000 players, coaches and spectators.
