Leaders Plead For Aboriginal Vote

The province’s top Metis and First Nations leaders are calling on their people to get out and vote.

Yesterday, for the first time ever, the president of the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan and chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations held a joint press conference.

MNS president Robert Doucette is disappointed that Metis issues don’t seem to be on the radar of any of the political parties.

In fact, he says none have contacted the MNS office.

Doucette hopes the parties take note of the unity between the MNS and FSIN and all Aboriginal people, because he says if they could seriously impact some urban ridings as well as the one in the north.

Doucette and Lonechild both say they can’t and won’t tell people how to vote – they just want people to exercise that right.

They will be hosting three candidates forums, one in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert, where there will be candidates from the various parties, as well as Elections Canada officials with information on how and where to vote.
